If there is a systray it will take the icons. I don't think there's any way to
prevent that other than not using the KDE system tray due to the way the
current X11 system tray spec. All notification (systray) icons must be a whole
X11 window, and the system tray/notification area must embed these windows,
meaning that there can be only one instance of the icon at the time.
Yeah the spec sucks pretty horribly, but it was designed over a decade ago for
a desktop with different needs, and its impossible to change the behavior
without breaking any application with a systray icon. :(
