Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: pidgin
Using Xubuntu 8.10 and pidgin 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1.1.
I noticed today that after about a few hours of use, pidgin has a LOT
(~250) threads running. So, I tested the thread count periodically with
the following command:
while true; do ps -eLf | grep pidgin | wc -l; sleep 1; done
The output seemed to indicate that the thread leak occurs when a sound
plays. I tested this by chatting to SmarterChild and watching the
numbers go up:
* When I had message send and message recv sounds, thread count went up by 2 on
each send/reply pair.
* When I had only message recv sound enabled, thread count went up by 1 on each
pair.
* When sounds were muted (from Pidgin prefs), thread count did not rise on each
pair.
The pulseaudio daemon is not running, but I don't know how to check what
sound system is in use in XFCE.
Let me know if I can provide any debugging information.
