I was about to file a bug with the same suggestion as in comment 1, i.e.
to allow the package name to be overridden, because this is useful in
other cases as well.

For example, when it's not yet clear which package is at fault, it might
be useful to collect information from other packages which may be
relevant.  For example, running ALSA package hooks for a bug currently
filed against the kernel.
