Public bug reported:
I was running dapper on generic Clevo 2200 1GHz laptop and following a
kernel upgrade to linux-image-2.6.15-25-686 the machine would do the
oft-reported hang at "Waiting for root file system..." followed by
dropping to BusyBox shell after a few minutes having not found it.
At this stage, all the modules for my IDE (sis5513) seem to be there and
/dev/hda1 had appeared. I was able to mount /dev/hda1 (ext3) and chroot
to it -- the file system looked fine. Having foolishly removed my older
kernels I managed to reinstall a few older versions of 2.6.15 by booting
to knoppix chrooting to /dev/hda1 and using aptitude. None of the older
kernels would find the root file system either.
I got a lot of help on IRC (thanks Matthew G!) but I'm giving up on it -
I've got to get a replacement machine set up in time for LRL'06. I still
have the machine in this state if any more information is needed,
however it isn't very accessible as it's built into an arcade machine!
