Confirming in both Hardy and Intrepid. What's weird is that I've found
a workaround that doesn't make any sense: go into
preferences->keyboard->layouts->layout options, go to compose key, and
then uncheck and recheck the box. That will make it work again for some
reason.
So, really, it seems like the saved (or displayed) preferences aren't
being loaded (or aren't at the right time)
