** Summary changed: - Install "Kernel panic" in 8.10 + Install Kernel panic - Out of memory (in 8.10 only)
** Description changed: + (update: 8.04.2 install works, but I still need 8.10 for various + reasons; reinforces the possibility that this is a real bug) + Machine: Intel q9400 quad-core, 1Gb RAM, 150Gb HD I tried installing Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 (64-bit), 8.10 alternate (64-bit), and 8.10 alternate (32-bit). In each case, I finish the manual partitioning (guided also fails), and during the installation, in the "Select and install software," it unhappily exists the install window and displays the following error message: Killed [1241.760152] Kernel panic - not syncing: Out of memory and no killable processes... (Occasionally, it just exists and displays "Killed Killed Killed" as if possessed.) I checked the HD for bad sectors, did a memory test, and checked the install CD. All report to be fine.
