Hello,

Just open a video MP4 file with totem. Choose Preferences for videoviewing. 
Make some changes for brightness, colour, contrast and after that you only 
can close the window without saving the changes.

So, as long as your linux session lasts, the changes will stay in Totem, but 
as soon as you shut down Linux and reboot it, the changes you made in the 
preference tab are gone so that you have to make these changes again and 
again and again after each reboot, and that is not realy nice.

Binary package hint: totem

When saving preferences for viewing video etc. that works in de going 
session. But after restart Ubuntu 8.10 the savings are gone and one has to 
save the again changed perferences on new.
