Well, I wasn't able to solve the problem myself (the bug left my system
unbootable). As this happened on a "testing" machine that only contained
the OS, I simply reinstalled the OS from scratch and skipped that  
particular
upgrade. I then upgraded to the next available update, and have had no
trouble with updates since.

AFAIAC we can close the bug.
