Binary package hint: notify-osd
using current jaunty:
* set the volume to some non-null level
* hit the volume_down key on your keyboard
* notice how the slider is updated smoothly
* repeat the volume_down until the icon change to muted because there is no
volume set
* the icon change is not smooth there is some transitional effect apparently
between those
