I think the "no results" and "e-mail only" should be the same misbehaviour. From what I experienced in the past, it seems to me that results related to files are sometimes extremely slow to arrive. The e-mail appearing is independent (it may depend on actually having them indexed, or actually having results in them). I don't know if when the results don't arrive at all, it is because of timeouts.
