This problem showed up as Debian bug #492444. Added the Debian bug to this
report.
The workaround in comment #2 (permalink:

bug #316929 was confirmed by the upstream maintainer as the preferred
workaround until the fix is released.
A fix was released in version 1.1 (changelog at
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/e/etcinsvk/etcinsvk_1.1/changelog
), which is included with Jaunty, so marking 'Fix Committed'
