i tried http://librarian.launchpad.net/1785060/movie.gif & optische_illusion_kreis_animated.gif with the package from Andreas Moog PPA. They both work on Jaunty except that optische_illusion_kreis_animated.gif animation stops briefly at 11/12 with that eog version whereas Firefox don't.
