Following the failed attempt to investigate this bug using a Jaunty live CD I have changed the software download settings to include all the Hardy proposed updates as well as the others. If you try to copy a table, using copy and paste, OpenOffice crashes and, on recovery, the copied table is there but contains no data. This is in spite of the fact that the option to copy structure and data was chosen. I attach the error report that came from this episode.
