Hello,

I'm having the same problem with my Epson Perfection 2400. sane-find-
scanner finds the scanner, permissions are correct (the same problem
occurs as root) but 'scanimage -L' does not find anything, although with
SANE_DEBUG_EPSON=256 set, I get

[epson] attach_one_usb()
[epson] SANE Epson Backend v0.2.45 - 2000-01-09
[epson] attach(, 3)
[epson] attach: opening
[epson] attach_one_usb(libusb:003:004)
[epson] SANE Epson Backend v0.2.45 - 2000-01-09
[epson] attach(libusb:003:004, 3)
[epson] attach: opening libusb:003:004
[epson] Found valid EPSON scanner: 0x4b8/0x11b (vendorID/productID)
...
[epson] scanner model: GT-9300

and with libsane-extras installed, I get

[epkowa] SANE EPKOWA Backend 1.16.0-3 - 2005-06-29
[epkowa] attach(libusb:003:004, 3)
[epkowa] attach: opening libusb:003:004
[epkowa] Found valid EPSON scanner: 0x4b8/0x11b (vendorID/productID)
...
[epkowa] scanner model: Perfection 2400

but in both cases I get no "non-debug" output, and xsane does not find any
scanners (just exits again after searching).

The above workaround does not help either. My scanner worked fine with
Dapper, though.
