I really cannot say that I'm in favor of the way this is projected, but I find myself in most agreement with the points that: 1) this should be adjustable, and 2) that there needs to be a more persistant way of notifying for needed reboots and updates not attended to (most especially security updates).
With Ubuntu's ever growing popularity, more security flaws are found, more quickly, but also stand to be exploited more often as well, in my opinion.
