It was installed, I checked in synaptic. The version 1.6.0_0 does, in fact, refer to openjdk-6-jre. I found it at location /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre. I have tried that version. The 1.6.0_07 version is the Sun one. Ian Mackee
