I've had a similar problem. I can play movies on my desktop just fine. I just installed the same os and software on my brothers acer laptop and he said he couldn't play movies in either totem or vlc player. I'm glad to know it's a software bug and not something I was doing wrong.
Here's the solution I found that worked. When you pop in the DVD and gnome ask you what you want to do with the it just close it. Open VLC manually, click on the Media menu then click Open Disc. Check box "No DVD Menus" and click play. This should cause it to go right to the movie skipping all commercials and menus. Now if only I can figure out how to make VLC do that automatically so when he pops in a dvd it'll go straight to the movie my brother will be a happy camper. -- VLC, Totem cannot correctly play DVD movies. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315998 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
