Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org
If one cell contains a formula ="test" and that cell is then copied and the content pasted into the 'input line' bar, so that the value only is pasted, there is then a white space apparent in the 'input line' bar. That whitespace doesn't disappear on exit+reentry to the cell and when it's deleted, rather than remove whitespace, results in the last character from the real cell's content being removed rather than any whitespace that the input bar suggests is there. This isn't obvious until you exit+reenter the cell and find the content truncated.
