Also having this issue--similar setup. AMD Phenom II 710 + 4GB RAM +
512MB on GeForce 8200GS running Ubuntu 8.10 x86-64. I suspect the
problem is with how the kernel is managing memory when the amount of all
installed memory (RAM, Graphics cards, etc) > 4GB.

I could be completely wrong but if my memory serves me correctly, the
"hole" that appears in the amount of available RAM is where the kernel
creates a "bridge" to the remaining memory so it can use all the rest of
it in 64-bit addressed space. Unless you're working with a lot of RAM
(a lot more than the 4-8GB on most modern workstations and gaming rigs),
I don't think an aperture size of greater than 32MB is needed.
Personally, I'm not exactly missing my 64MB, but the message popping up
is a little irritating to someone as OCD as I am.

It would be super cool if an Ubuntu über-geek could confirm or deny
this...or at least acknowledge the issue.

I see at least two posters so far are using an AMD processor. Anyone
here NOT running AMD?
