Public bug reported:

Hi,

* this is a wish *

Ubuntu has at least three distinct desktop worlds, each coming with its
own individual storage for contacts, calendar entries, todos, etc.
There's the gnome world with evolution, there's the KDE world with it's
storage, and there's Thunderbird, and maybe more. A real nightmare.

Would be really great and a significant improvement if there was a
unified ubuntu storage model for

* contacts (including e-mail-adresses)
* calendar entries and TODO's
* points of interests / GPS coordinates
* maybe WWW bookmarks
* (maybe account data)

to enable to use the same set of data from all desktops, and to be
easily able to copy the files from one computer to another.

Proposal: Use a sqlite3 database in the user's home directory, and write
an ubuntu library to deal with it (and the database versioning) with a
plain API. Then write - where possible - adaptors for KDE and GNOME, or
invite developers (e.g. of Thunderbird) to adopt that method.

Would be important to keep those implementation details away from the
API to be able to update or use new technologies smoothly.

regards
Hadmut
