I think I found the issue...

I have a WD MyBook External FireWire hard drive
(http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=224)
hooked up to my machine. When it is plugged in the 2.6.20-3.4 kernel
will not boot.

I unplugged it and I was able to boot with 2.6.20-3.4.

When I plugged in the MyBook via FireWire while running 2.6.20-3.4 in
GNOME the drive never turns on and never gets mounted. Usually the drive
at least spins up but with 2.6.20-3.4 it seems the FireWire ports on my
machine are not active at all. I have an ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless
Mobo.

So the real issue seems to be FireWire not working for some reason (with
at least this hardware combo) in 2.6.20-3.4.

Please let me know if I can provide you with any info that might help
track down the issue.

Thanks Ben
