Disabling or removing network-manager has no effect on my system either. It still freezes.
My install of Jaunty is a fresh install. Not an upgrade from Intrepid. So, if this bug is a leftover, it is a leftover of Jaunty alpha 4 or 5 (as far as I remember.)
