It's definitely going to be up to the community. There are many questions on this, many work-arounds that may or may not work for users in the forums, the Answers community and ubuntu-users list, and this has been since 2005? I could barely believe it when I found this bug when trying to help another user just get the S-Video/TV Out to work. Now the i810 "work around" doesn't work because the driver is no longer available, easily at least, from the repositories in 8.10.
And in any since it can be a dead-end because only limited users reported success with using the i810 driver.
