@Extreme: your description indicated that you were getting the gnome-
power-notification when pressing the brightness keys; can you confirm
that you did *not* see any events while doing
xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode *\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\),
.*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p'
and pressing the brightness keys (after killing gnome-power-manager and
gnome-settings-daemon)?
