A leading space seems to be ignored.
A trailing space tends to reduce the number of hits but sometimes it can 
actually increase the number of results.  Other times it just cancels all 
results and finds nothing.

Maybe it doesn't hang but it isn't clear if a space becomes part of the
search token or whether it is used to select between two different
search methods, i.e. one for whole words and another for partial words.
