I've got the same problem on Xubuntu Intrepid 8.10 64 bits, with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. It also appear as a DMC-FZ10, not detected as a digital photo camera. An "usb stick" is mounted when connecting in usb, but the volume is read only (I can see the message "write protect is on" in the dmesg log) but the SD Card in the camera is not in the protected mode.
