Hi Jon,

I'm sorry if I'm 1980's but "virtual consoles" to me mean the various
"TTY" screens (or VT1, VT2, ... as they have been called on some *nix
systems) accessible via Control-Alt-F1, F2, ... .  I was trying to
convey that switching through the different screens I did not find any
error messages I could report.  Also the Dell Dimension 4600C is a
desktop machine -- not a laptop.

So to be clear - no virtual machine, the system was booting up from the
native BIOS on the raw hardware.
