Public bug reported:

After entering the password for the encrypted root drive, the splash
screen is lost and the boot continues with text only. Installations are
from desktop alternate CD:s, amd64 when possible and i386 otherwise. On
all but one machines, this happens.

Cases:
HW1 HP Compaq nx6325 with a) 80GB b) 320GB SATA: intrepid-TEXT
HW2 AMD Athlon 64 X2, nForce 4 with 320GB SATA: intrepid-TEXT
HW3 AMD Phenom II 810, 790GX with 320GB SATA: jaunty-TEXT
HW4 Via EPIA MII with a) Kingston 8GB USB Flash b) Verbatim 8GB USB Flash :
intrepid-OK, jaunty-OK

I think the delay after entering the password is longer with the hard
drives.

All are using default settings and latest updates, e.g.
- Empty usplash.conf
- Default cipher
- Default menu.lst including XP entry with the exception of HW4 which does not
have windows XP installed

HW1 lspci output below.

** Affects: usplash (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
