Public bug reported:
I installed Ubuntu 6.10 and my sound card (Creative Labs SB Audigy LS)
was working fine. I installed kubuntu-desktop and koffice metapackages
yesterday. Logging in this morning my sound was working fine. I logged
out of gnome, logged into KDE to use the KDE printer configuration tool.
When I logged out, I noticed there was no "drum beat" sound on the GDM
login screen. There is now no sound in Gnome or KDE. Applications run as
if sound is being made, but nothing. There is still no sound after
rebooting. I tried running:
sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset
and
sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset
but still no sound. The output of
lsmod | grep snd
is:
snd_ca0106 36228 1
snd_rawmidi 27264 1 snd_ca0106
snd_seq_device 9868 1 snd_rawmidi
snd_ac97_codec 97696 1 snd_ca0106

snd_mixer_oss 19584 1 snd_pcm_oss

soundcore 11232 1 snd
snd_ac97_bus 3456 1 snd_ac97_codec
snd_page_alloc 11400 2 snd_ca0106,snd_pcm
The ca0106 module for my sound card is loaded.
The output of
lspci | grep audio
is:
00:0c.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Audigy LS
I ran alsmixer and sound is not muted.
I started the PC up with a Knoppix disk and confirmed that sound works
in Knoppix.
