I am having this exact problem with an up-to-date Jaunty.
GDM logs say:
error setting MTRR (base = 0xe0000000, size = 0x10000000, type = 1) Invalid
argument (22)
ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log
And a lot of:
exaCopyDirty: Pending damage region empty!
I830PMEvent: Capability change
I830PMEvent: Capability change
I830PMEvent: Capability change
I830PMEvent: Capability change
This is with GM965/GL960 and compiz disabled as well.
