Here is an Xorg.0.log after reproducing the issue just now. There are no error messages shown.
Also, it seems while this is 100% reproducible, the exact symptoms vary a bit. For instance, this time the left monitor was showing fine, and it was the right monitor which blanked. Also, a vt-switch can clear the blanked screen and make it display properly if done on the first or second apply. After the second or third time though, the system is locked up. In syslog, I saw the following line which seems to coincide with the failure: Mar 30 13:09:19 chideok kernel: [139426.676140] [drm] Num pipes: 1 >From syslog I can see it was also responding to sysreq+alt+k, however if that was properly killing X, it did not cause the displays to come back up. But I think this rules out a kernel lockup, since it responded to sysreq. My guess from all of this is that gnome-display-properties is failing to set up the output pipes correctly. Both my displays are connected via DVI outputs, so maybe the capplet's logic for handling such a situation is erroneous? ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log.old" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24546132/Xorg.0.log.old -- gnome-display-properties locks up X when changing multi-head layout https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351900 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
