Tested guest and get the exact same "Unable to start the settings manager "gnome-settings-daemon". Attached a screenshot from the guest session showing this issue. What I tried to do was System->Preferences ->Keyboard. It stalls and then finally the message comes up. Then you can continue and work with the keyboard though the meta key setting never takes effect.
