Public bug reported:

Sorry but I don't know what package this is dealing with. A quick
overview of how I came across this, I had a graphics card blow out on
me. Running Intrepid I kept getting freezes, I reinstalled Intrepid from
the safe graphics mode and it worked, I am able to do everything. The
resolution is (as expected) quite horrible.

The issue is that this afternoon I installed Gutsy in safe graphics mode
and again, even with a broken graphics card I can use Ubuntu but now the
resolution is fairly good. 1280x1024 is what I'm at now, I think in
Intrepid in safe graphics mode the most I get is 800x600.

Now one other thing, when I do the updates (instead of installing
directly) to intrepid, the resolution stays fairly good.

Let me know if you need more details, until I get a working graphics
card I'll be working in safe mode and can provide details as needed.

Thanks for the hard work
