Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx

Ubuntu jaunty (development branch) - beta with updates to April 1
2:8.600-0ubuntu1

After manual install of the restricted xorg-driver-fglrx and reboot, the system
booted correctly until gdm.
Although gdm has started, there was screen tearing and the keyboard and mouse
were unresponsive.

I have tried several gdm restarts via ssh with no success.

The gdm log says:
/usr/X11R6/bin/X: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libdri.so: undefined symbol:
atiddxAbiDixLookupPrivate

Trying to manually load the fgrlx module fails with symbol lookup error.

** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
