@Pauli, Could you give us a link to the additional levels for xmoto. I've got R300, too (RV350) and just tried ~30 maps (xmoto and xmoto-data packages from universe repository) and I haven't get the freeze. Packaged drivers: "xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu1: i386" and just released "xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu1: i386", too.
