Installed MySQL 5.0 server with adept - version 5.024a-9
Attempting to start server with mysqld_safe results in this error in syslog:
mysqld got signal 4;

Workaround:
installed pre-compiled static binaries from mysql.com. Note that dynamically
linked binaries don't run, because they require libstdc++ 5, and Egdy uses
libstdc++ 6, which breaks some backward compatibility.
