In other words, your CD drive started to return errors, the installer
started to get input/output errors, and at that point there was very
little it could do. This sort of thing is often due to a faulty CD disk
or drive. It may help to clean the CD, to burn the CD at a lower speed,
or to clean the CD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from
electronics suppliers).
