Same here. Installation of amd64 is unsuccessful. Lenovo Ideapad Y430 (core2duo T5800 4gb ram) crashes after loading vmlinuz... There seem to be no way to take advantage of the 64bit and >3gb ram with ubuntu 8.10 even trying the alternate installation!
