When you see the grub booting, hit "e" that will put you in grub's edit
mode, there you will edit your boot command line

/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=3eea46ad-1172-4cb9-b13c-
0939cd8e5112 ro quiet splash

to something like...

/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=3eea46ad-1172-4cb9-b13c-
0939cd8e5112 ro rootdelay=60

I usually remove the "quiet splash" coz I like  to see what is
happening, and then hit "b" to boot this command line.
