I suggest this might actually be an issue with wpasupplicant. I cannot do a connection with that either.

Both can connect to open or WEP protected networks. I did a search for bugs in wpasupplicant on launchpad but couldn't find a relevant one. I can start attaching random log files if it will help? Does network manager just use wpasupplicant?
