I have a 3G USB stick (E220 HSDPA from HUAWEI)
Ubuntu 8.10 and up to Jaunty alpha5 were able to establish network connection
using this device.
However in Jaunty alpha6 and now in Beta versions, the device will work
exactly only one time.
Upon plugging in the usb stick, a wizard will appear and inform that a 3g modem
was detected.
It will then ask some questions such as region (tw for taiwan) and carrier
(Chunghwa telecom).
The very first time a connection can be established.
But either unplugging and replugging device or rebooting, all connection tries
fail.
In addition, two entries appear under the network icon menu with the name
(Chungwa Telecom).
Looking at the daemon log, i noticed that in trying to select the first entry
in the menu, the network manager tries to use /dev/ttyUSB0 as a modem dialup,
this should be the correct one). The second entry causes the network manager
to try to use /dev/ttyUSB1, which is not correct). Note both will fail to
establish connection.
Note the very first time modem is detected and following through the wizard
steps, only one entry appears.
After reboot or replugging, the second entry appears.
