Thanks Scott - it looks like it might be. Using a modified version of the patch in freedesktop-bugs #19557 at least allows a correct (i.e. using the EDID info) modeline to function. It still doesn't autodetect correctly without the modeline though.
(Note to anybody else who wants to play with the patch: the code that sets the variable 'implementation' masks off the top and bottom nibbles of the word, so to get it to match my card (10de:0242) I had to make the test '== 0x0240'.) Fortunately Nouveau gets all this right, so there is light at the end of the tunnel one way or another.. (Not marking this as a duplicate, as other aspects of the autodetection still seem to be busted with this chipset/monitor combo..) ** Attachment added: "nv-hack.diff" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24840753/nv-hack.diff ** Summary changed: - [intrepid] can't drive widescreen flat planel at EDID-supplied mode with GeForce 6100 + [jaunty beta] (still) can't drive widescreen flat planel at EDID-supplied mode with GeForce 6100 -- [jaunty beta] (still) can't drive widescreen flat planel at EDID-supplied mode with GeForce 6100 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311976 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
