OK, I upgraded again to the latest libsndfile (1.0.17-4ubuntu0.8.04.1), and no problems anymore... (listening to Rod Stewart right now), also not after logout/login. So, no, I cannot reproduce either. The problems occurred with several (randomly selected) mp3 files. Running from cmdline gave no output, other than some startup messages about missing plugins, that it now also still reports -- with Rod Stewart still playing :-) Perhaps the problem was related to something else in (or during) the upgrade, but I have no idea what or why. (There was a gstreamer update, with some associated codecs and libs, but that was March 17.) Other than that, I had some login/session quirks friday evening and this morning.
