Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have just installed Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 on my new laptop HP Compaq
nw9440. This is a very recent hardware, but practically all function
very well.

Only one issue is yet present: the power manager don't function well.
When the laptop has finished to boot, I can see the gnome power manager applet
that display the current battery, or power state. But during the use of the
laptop I can't see no more changes in the applet. If I use only battery, I
receive no infos on the remaining power because the applet state is always the
same as the booting time. Same thing when I use the power AC adapter. I can't
see when the battery is full charged. If I detach the AC adapter, the power
applet don't change from power to battery and vice versa. In other words, after
the boot, the power manager applet is like "frozen".
Moreover the nw9440 laptop has an extra key (Fn+F8) that should display the
battery state, but it don't function.
I have also discovered that the boot process with the AC adapter is different
from the boot process with only the battery. With the AC power adapter the boot
time is normal, instead with the battery the boot process make a pause of
almost 2 minutes just at the beginning (at the second message in the splash).

I don't know if it's a kernel problem, an ACPI problem, an hardware
recognition problem, or what else.

I will attach to this bug report the following files:
- dmesg result with AC adapter
- dmesg result without AC adapter
- lspci -vv result
- syslog with AC adapter
- syslog without AC adapter
- boot messages with AC adapter
- boot messages without AC adapter
I hope these documents can help you finding the problem
