I'm surprised by the behaviour you describe because grub2 doesn't
actually use /boot/grub/menu.lst at all. Can you describe in more
detail *exactly* what you did, the output it generated, and when the
error occurred?
Could you please also attach the following files:
/boot/grub/menu.lst
/boot/grub/grub.cfg
/etc/grub.d/*
