When this happened again this morning, I clicked OK on "Please wait your display will restart in a minute"... then waited. The console login showed, I didn't type in anything and within about 15 seconds I'd think KDM was restarted and the greeter was shown. Logging in to the system via the console obviously doesn't trigger anything.
