Just updated the machine to the latest Jaunty and the symptoms are worse now -- the machine does one powerup then powersoff and remains powered off.
Please note that a similar issue is present when normally powering off the machine from the system menu: after the shutdown is complete and machine has automatically powered off, when I press the power button the machine powers up for a short amount of time then powers off and I have to press the power button a second time to have it booting (normally).
