I just want to say I have the same problem, although on Debian's 2.6.29 and a DMX6Fire (same module, different card), so I'm guessing the problem might be pulseaudio or upstream related.
If I open envy24control (the mixer for ice1712 cards) I can see the monitor for several channels stuck as if they had sound, although I have my front speakers setup to hear "digital mix" (so if there was noise I'd hear it) and they remain mute. If wanted, which I'm not sure of as I'm not in ubuntu, I can provide given logs as soon as possible, as well as do some regression testing with debian's 2.6.29 to 2.6.26 and even ubuntu's kernels (but on a debian mixed testing / unstable userland).
