I think I'm having this bug as well in GNOME - Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit & Ubuntu 8.10
32-bit
Hardware is an Acer Aspire 5002wlmi
When I go to System . Preferences > Display only shows one monitor. The
external monitor is not detected at all. When I'm able to boot up with a
clean picture free of messed up colors (usually takes deleting and
regenerating xord.conf) this is what I get for xrandr and lspci:
xrandr only shows one output:
