Apparently it either can't read EDID or it misreads the EDID, so it defaults to 1024x768. The monitor is a 1280x1024 LCD, but it's behind a Dell KVM. - 1280x768 is not in the list of resolutions with which I am presented in + 1280x1024 is not in the list of resolutions with which I am presented in System -> Preferences -> Display. I can choose 1152x864 or 1360x768.
